Who knew my kindergarten report card would predict so much about the person I've grown to be? I was doing well, it said. I was polite to my classmates, but I disrupted class. I asked the question "why" too much. Today, not much has changed. If you present me with a problem, I can't help but wonder how it came about. What contributes to its persistence, and how can I resolve it? For me, the answer to that last question almost always lies in design. Design democratizes information and makes complex concepts approachable. With each new design challenge, I begin with a simple question: "Why?".
