Shelby Drabman

Shelby Drabman (b. 1991, Napa, CA) is a visual artist living and working in Los Angeles, CA. Primarily a textile artist, Drabman also works in video, drawing, and sculpture. Her recent work is inspired by the tropes in horror films, investigating the uncanny through the lens of functional objects and how they shape our relationship to what we consider home. She recently created a series of artist's books, focusing on the trope of The Final Girl in horror films from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s which launched in 2023 at the Hauser & Wirth bookstore, in conjunction with the Artists' Book Workshop at ArtCenter, led by Gabrielle Jennings. Shelby's work has been shown at The ICA, Los Angeles; Good Mother Gallery DTLA;bG Gallery in Santa Monica; Carnation Contemporary, Portland, OR; The Platform, Culver City, CA; among many others. She received a BFA in Fiber and Material Studies from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2013 and is currently pursuing an MFA at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.
