Skylar Kusama

Skylar Kusama (b. 1999, San Francisco) grew up in Los Angeles, cultivating a specific relation and obsession with media, dismissively coined as Pop Culture. Kusama has concentrated on examining the zeitgeist of "pop," and the construction of subjectivity in media through writing, sculpture, printmaking, performance, and video. This work serves as a reckoning of surroundings through the interrogation of contemporary image production, films, and persona.

Kusama has laid her foundations in Los Angeles, which she will carry with her as the 9th Term Honors award recipient where she will extend her research and practice in Berlin, Germany.
