When I was five, my mom sent me to my first ballet class. An hour later, she came back to find me watching my classmates twirl around without me. I found early on that I’m not the best dancer, but that doesn’t mean that I’m uninformed in movement. From the back of the room, I study how the fabric of the skirt floats down after a kick of the leg, how fingers curl gracefully at the end of the arm, how inertia keeps a dancer’s body spinning at an axis. I love motion design because I can dance using motion. I choreograph moves to music, I change lighting, formation, color— everything I need to create a performance on-screen.
